The back of the package reads "Thank you for buying this Spitfire Glider. In doing so you have helped 'Reach for the Sky', the RAF Benevolent Fund's Battle of Britain 50th Anniversary Appeal. This important Appeal aims to raise 20 million pounds to enable the Fund to continue caring for the men and women who served their country without hesitation during the War, and who are now facing ill health and financial distress as they approach old age."
The 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was in 1990 which was 23 years ago. I looked up the RAF Benevolent Fund, and found there website at this link: http://www.rafbf.org/. They were active in 1990 and appear to be very active today.
This glider instantly became one of my favorites! The colors are very bright and it is really detailed compared to most of my other gliders. Often gliders will have text printed on one side that will be printed backwards on the opposing side. As you can see, this glider does not have that. Also, the underside of the wings and tail are printed compared to most of my gliders which aren't.
I added a picture of the 2 additional gliders that I purchased off of E-bay UK. I don't intend on taking these out of the packages.

I had one of these, too. Nice looking glider. Shame they don't seem to be kicking about any more (not that I've seen, anyway).
ReplyDeleteI found 3 of these on eBay. They cost me a pretty penny too.
ReplyDeleteI have to say this is a nice glider, shame they didn't do a Bf-109 or a Hurricane with this one!
ReplyDeleteThe Hurricane or another RAF plane would have been nice. I can see why some people would have objected to a Bf-109 ;)
ReplyDeleteOne up for sale on Ebay item no 331637726544 Seller jfcollectables2013 ending Sept 1st 2015. If anyone wants one.
ReplyDeleteCool, this glider is based on Spitfire P7350.
ReplyDeleteSpitfire P7350 is one of the last, pure and real Spitfires that survived the Battle of Britain, and it's still flying today, this makes this one of the best Spitfire gliders in the World and a benefit for any polystyrene glider guy, I wish they were still making this. :D
They do show up on Ebay from time to time.
