Famous Profile Glider - North American P-51

Here is another one of my random E-bay purchases.  I bought 5 of these Famous Profile Gliders which are P-51 Mustangs.  They were made by a company called Crunden Martin Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, MO.  There are still price tags on the packaging which show that the gliders sold for $0.59 each.  These gliders are interesting to say the least.  They are a combination of balsa & styrofoam.  The fuselage is balsa.  The wings & the horizontal stabilizer are made of styrofoam.  The package comes with 2 decals to put on each side of the fuselage.  The decals are supposed to stick together to form the vertical stabilizer.  The decals are very shiny and have some very nice looking graphics on them.  However, the combination of the fuselage decals and the styrofoam wings / horizontal stabilizer looks a little funny.  There were 2 star insignia to put on the wings, but I didn't do that for these pictures.  I have a feeling that these gliders are really old, and the glue on the decals must have lost most of its adhesiveness over the years.  Maybe someday I will try glue the decals on to the fuselage with some fresh glue, or possibly even create a new fuselage complete with vertical stabilizer and glue the decals to it.

Power Prop WW1 Glider - Bleriot XI

I saw this glider for sale on E-bay and I just had to have it.  I think it cost me about $5.00 which was pretty reasonable.  I have made earlier posts about the set of 12 WW1 gliders.  Each of them came in paper envelope packages.  This glider is in a cardboard backed package overlaid with plastic, just like the WW2 gliders that I posted about a while back.  This package says the glider is from 1977 and it was made in Japan.  What a find! This was the first time in several years of collecting that I have ever seen a glider like this for sale.  Now if only I can find the other 11....

Card Stock Glider

A long time ago I found the design for this glider on the web.  I printed the design on to regular paper, glued the paper on to card stock and then cut out and assembled the glider.  I think the design said to tape or glue some pennies in the nose for weight.  I tried that and it didn't make the glider fly very well.  I think the whole thing is a little too flimsy to fly well.  Anyway, building the glider was a fun way to spend some time.

Piedmont Airlines Foam Model

I look around on E-bay quite often hoping to find interesting gliders that I may have never seen before.  I had seen Piedmont Airlines Foam Models for sale, but they were often quite expensive.  Once I found one that was for sale for $0.99 plus shipping.  The glider was used and came already punched out of its foam sheet.  I purchased the glider and paid the relatively expensive shipping costs which I believe were around $10.00 or so.  The glider showed up taped in between 2 pieces of cardboard.  I think that was the first time that I have ever left someone negative feedback on E-bay.  The vendor assured me that it did cost $10.00 to tape the glider pieces between 2 pieces of cardboard and ship it to me, and that I should learn how to read better.  

Anyway, here is the Piedmont Airlines Foam Model that I bought.  It is unlike any of my other gliders.  There are holes in the wings for where the engine inserts should have gone, but alas I did not receive them.  Perhaps the vendor is selling the engine inserts for another $0.99 plus $10.00 shipping...

Usage of Images From This Blog To Sell Gliders on E-bay

It has come to my attention that some people are using images from my blog to sell gliders on E-bay.  I really don't mind if you use my images.  It's not like I put a lot of work into these images.  All I had to do was point the camera and shoot.  That being said, PLEASE DO NOT USE IMAGES OF GLIDERS FROM THIS BLOG TO SELL COUNTERFEIT GLIDERS OR GLIDERS OF A MUCH LOWER QUALITY .  Doing so is VERY dishonest and will make people upset.
