Power Prop Gliders - #1 Hawker Hurricane

This is an update to a post I made back on September 21, 2013. In that post I only posted a picture of the packaging of this glider because for some reason a Spitfire came inside the Hurricane package.

A while back I found a full set of 12 Power Prop Gliders in the red & blue packs for sale on E-bay. They included a #1 Hawker Hurricane which I did not yet have. Thankfully now I have an entire set of 12! The coloring on this one is a little washed out as you can see.

Glider with "Power Prop" - #6 Hawker Hurricane MK. 11C

The Hurricane was probably the first glider that I ever got. I think that my brother & I each received a glider and later on I inherited his glider. As you can see they logged some pretty serious flight time and some pretty serious time in the "shop" as well as you can see the extensive repairs done with scotch tape which has yellowed over the years. The purple colored ones are definitely older than the more pristine looking glider.

The envelope says Hawker Hurricane, but a very nice Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk glider came inside. I'll have to keep a lookout for another one of these.

The Battle of Britain Commemorative Spitfire Glider

I randomly found this glider while searching on E-bay UK and found that this glider has a story attached to it.

The back of the package reads "Thank you for buying this Spitfire Glider. In doing so you have helped 'Reach for the Sky', the RAF Benevolent Fund's Battle of Britain 50th Anniversary Appeal. This important Appeal aims to raise 20 million pounds to enable the Fund to continue caring for the men and women who served their country without hesitation during the War, and who are now facing ill health and financial distress as they approach old age."

The 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was in 1990 which was 23 years ago. I looked up the RAF Benevolent Fund, and found there website at this link: http://www.rafbf.org/. They were active in 1990 and appear to be very active today.

This glider instantly became one of my favorites! The colors are very bright and it is really detailed compared to most of my other gliders. Often gliders will have text printed on one side that will be printed backwards on the opposing side. As you can see, this glider does not have that. Also, the underside of the wings and tail are printed compared to most of my gliders which aren't.

I added a picture of the 2 additional gliders that I purchased off of E-bay UK. I don't intend on taking these out of the packages.
