(Vintage) Flying Gliders - Introduction

This is my collection of "Flying Gliders", which appear to pre-date the "Power Prop Flying Gliders" that I posted a while ago.  I think that these "Flying Gliders" are older because the art work on the packaging is much more detailed than on any of the  the "Power Prop Flying Gliders".  Take a moment to look back and compare them if you wish.

I have 11 of the 12 gliders.  The only glider that I do not have is the #12 Piper Tri-Pacer glider.  I am keeping watch for it on E-bay so I can complete the set.

  1. The Piper Tri Pacer is incredibly rare, I had it once but that was back in 1998, I did have the whole set which sadly got destroyed! but as far as I can remember its appearance was a cross between these glider types and the Power Prop Flying Gliders by Taiwan..

  2. I had a change to buy it once, but I waited to long and the auction was over and someone else got it. I keep checking E-bay for it but I haven't seen once for sale since.

  3. There are of course still originals still going, but its a time and place situation, I was lucky to get originals from Ebay and it was only by chance and asking around...but what also gets me is, that the re releases use the original colour scheme from the time period, except that the quality is slightly poorer than the Taiwan types...

  6. By the way, you were right about the entire 12 set of these undergoing extensive refit in the 90's, to the famous set we had from 1992 to 2001...8 years we had the newer gliders, because according to my cousin, they were still selling these type, and it was again in 1998 when I got my hands on this set, only one time though, I had them all, from the 190, Lockheed and the Tri pacer, but what amazes me was, that this set was smaller in comparison and the Hayate and the Zero were blue not green! and the 190's were pale blue too with their respected markings, the Hurricane was camouflaged not purple like the one you possess....I guess it was a rare find!

  8. Me too, they didn't have the propeller logo as I remember, and the FLYING GLIDERS was black with little spikes coming of the F and the G, with the original pictures from these, and they were in proper paper bags not laminated paper like these, propellers were thin and the nib was pointed, and overall the gliders were smaller by at least an inch each way....

    1. Hello, I have just discovered 3 of these gliders in an old relative's house. They must have been purchased at least 30 years ago and come in paper packets. However, they also have warning stickers with bar codes on them with "Forest Business Park, London" included. On the back they have 12 pictures of the rest of the collection and it states they are "Made in China".

      The Numbers are:
      3 TYPE 4 FIGHTER HAYATE
      9 NORTH AMERICAN MUSTANG MK.2
      4 AIRCOBRA P-39.

The FLYING part of the logo is in red with a streak effect whereas the GLIDERS part of the logo is blue with white stripes going through it giving an American flag type effect.

Please can you tell me which edition these could be and if possible what they may be worth. Any help or information would be appreciated.

    2. John, I just sent you an e-mail. Myself & Eric might be able to help you out with that, but pictures would be helpful.

  9. John I think images would be sufficient too, because it sounds similar, but the China manufacture gives a puzzling impression upon us both here, but if you have got images, please send them to us :)
